Founded in 2002/2003, Sustainable Style Foundation (SSF) finds itself on the eve of a ten-year landmark. The past four years has included a serious consideration and contemplation of where we are and what our focus can and should be. Much work has been completed to this end.
When SSF started, there wasn’t much going on in the sustainable style scene. It was not easy for those wanting to make more sustainable personal lifestyle choices to find ways to match their values to products and services in areas such as fashion, food, interior design, travel, music, and more. Now, with our SSFBlog, Sourcebook, countless international events and cooperatives, we think it’s a little easier to look fabulous and live well while doing good.
We have helped drive change. Seven years ago a ‘green’ issue of Elle and Vanity Fair was unheard of, Oprah doing a ‘green’ giveaway show…never. But those things have come to pass and even though we weren’t involved directly with these milestones, we know that our early conversations with Elle, Oprah and others helped drive a little of that inspirational change. SSF, its founders and volunteers, are considered “pioneers”
SSF continues to make a positive difference today. As a non-profit, SSF is in a unique position to support new initiatives, products and concepts in the area of sustainability. It also serves as a neutral ground for business, NGO’s (non- government organizations) and non-profits creating a foundation for sustainability conversations that can make a difference.
On November 14, 2012 @ TASTE SAM (1300 First Avenue), folks will gather to celebrate, raise a glass and continue the conversation about sustainable lifestyle choices. From 5 – 7 SSF Sustainers will enjoy a no-host Happy Hour and light bights by TASTE. This will kick off a national celebration throughout next year of the last ten years and raise the platform for the next. SSF New Orleans has just announced their celebration date for April 4, 2013. NYC & LA dates are TBA.
